SYNOPSIS OF BUSHYPARK NS

Below is a synopsis of our school from the perspective of our Parents' Association from their recent submission to the Galway City Transport Project:

Our school has a student population of 403 pupils. It is a state of the art, modern, high- tech building hosting 16 classrooms, numerous support teaching rooms, a library, a school hall/ gym, playground, garden and its fantastic new pitch is operational after more than a year of construction.

It can safely be said that Bushypark School is one of the finest schools in Galway – both in terms of its infrastructure and the high standard of education it provides to our children. It has an excellent reputation, which has been gained in no small part through the dedication of the fantastic team of teachers and support staff and an excellent principal who has had a vision for the school’s development and has, over the last decade, overseen the transformation of the school to its current enviable status.

There are numerous extra-curricular and after-school activities of both a sporting and non sporting nature available in St. James’ – Speech & Drama, Irish Dance, Ceili Dancing, Basketball, Chess, Piano, Traditional Music Classes, Gaelic, Hurling, Tag Rugby, Soccer, Arts & Craft etc.,. We have an ‘Active Schools’ policy, a ‘Healthy Eating’ Policy, acquired the EU Green School’s Flag Award for the effort the children make in promoting a cleaner, healthier environment. The school has a large catchment area - pupils travel from Knocknacarra, Barna, Salthill, Newcastle, Moycullen and many other parts of the city.

St. James’ has a very active Parents’ Association. They operate the school library on a daily basis, volunteer in the school garden, run a weekly ‘Walking Bus’, organise a book rental scheme, annual book fair , run various fund-raising activities and give freely of their own valuable time for the betterment of our children’s’ education and their overall school experience. In essence - we’re all very proud of St. James’ and feel fortunate that our children attend this excellent school.
