The Carbon Cycle and Climate Change by Anna Sweeney in  Mr McDonaghs Fifth class.

Climate   change and the carbon cycle.
We are learning  about   climate   change   and   the   carbon   cycle.   Climate change   can   cause   a   big   effect   in millions of   peoples   lives   especially  the  poorest.
We  learned  about  the greenhouse  effect  which  is a  big  problem.
The greenhouse  effect  is  when  gas  levels  get  too  high  because  of  human  activities,   trapping too much  of the suns  energy,  as heat  upsets  the natural  systems  that regulate our  climate.   Things keep getting hotter   and hotter  and we start  seeing  more and more extreme weather and other impacts.
The carbon cycle  shows us how fossil fuels are burnt in a factory,  then put in the air which causes carbon dioxide. Fossil fuel power  plants  burn carbon fuels such as  coal, oil or gas to generate steam that drives large turbines that produce electricity. However, by burning carbon fuels they produce large amounts of carbon dioxide which causes climate change. Things we can do  to prevent climate change are to turn off the lights when not needed, unplug computers, TV's and other electronics when not needed. We also learned that we could eat meat-free meals, grow our own vegetables and fruits and most importantly not waste food. We all found it interesting learning about climate change with Caitríona Cunningham from An Táisce and hopefully we'll be doing these simple things around our home to help keep our planet safe.
