As part of our prize for winning the SFI Science Week Quiz, today we took part in a cool science workshop with the Rediscovery Centre in Dublin.
Our facilitator Ali talked us through the fantastic work that is carried out in the Centre and then spoke to us about science in the world us. Then it was onto the fun part! For our first experiment we delved into the world of Physics. We created a "Hoop Airplane" . Here we learned about how objects can be launched into the air using the forces of thrust and lift. We then moved onto the Chemistry section whereby we used "Red Cabbage Water" to test the pH levels in a variety of items. Using the pH scale, we added various substances to the water and noted the colour change to see whether the substance was acidic or basic. It was really interesting to see how the substances reacted . Finally, the messy part!! We then looked to see what would happen when certain acids/bases are mixed. Needless to say a little cleaning up was needed after that!! It was an excellent workshop and we want to say a huge thank you to Ali and all the team at the Rediscovery Centre for it! Special thanks also to the Science Foundation of Ireland who organised the workshop for us. We also want to say a huge congratulations once more to our winning Science Quiz team - without them this workshop wouldn't have happened! Take a look at some of our photos! :)
