Today we discussed a very prevalent topic: germs and how they spread. We learned about Ignaz Semmelweis a hungarian scientist (born 1818) who discovered that germs could be spread through human touch and not just through the air as most scientists of his time believed. He was the first doctor to promote hand washing in hospitals and in doing so the spread of infection in the hospital he worked in dropped from 15% to 1%. We then did an experiment to see how germs spread through hand shaking. Take a look at our experiment.
