Congratulations to Anne Marie Egan and Dillon Kitt (both 6th Class) who recently won prizes in the Galway Pioneer Total Abstinence Association Essay Writing Competition. Anne Marie came 1st in Galway and 3rd in Connaught, and Dillon came 3rd in Galway and 2nd in Connaught! Well done guys - great achievement.
Here are Anne Marie and Dillon pictured receiving their prizes from Frances Egan (President of the Galway PTAA) and Sean Duffy (Secretary of the Galway PTAA), also pictured with one of our 6th Class teachers - Ms Hynes. Big congratulations to our 6th Class debating team who won the Debating Final and took home the Sr De Lourdes Perpetual Cup on Wednesday. The team was proposing the motion "The USA Can Lead the World to a Safe Future" and defeated St Ita's NS, Loughrea. The team members were Shane McLoughlin, James McDonnell, Dillon Kitt, Alex Roe, Caoimhe Hogan and Temitade Adedeji. Congratulations also to Shane McLoughlin who won Best Overall Speaker! Well done to all our 6th Class pupils for their hard work and research - it was a great help and support. Thanks and well done also to the teachers and Patricia O'Rourke who put in lots of hard work over the last couple of months to prepare the team for the debates - it was a real team effort! We did some free painting so we got to paint what ever we liked. Some of us painted the beach, a flower, a fire engine, a see saw, a rainbow, a car, a dragon, a monster and a Skylander. We also coloured in and cut out some triangles and played with plasticine. Look at us busy at work...... See our Easter bunnies waiting for sunrise on Easter morning. We coloured our Easter eggs and wrote our best descriptions. We loved making our Easter nests. Cáisc shona daoibh go léir. We thoroughly enjoyed our preparations this term for Mother's Day. Watch carefully and you will see exactly how to make great chocolate cakes! You will see some of our story on the whiteboard. We didn't keep everything for ourselves! We hope you liked the cards and wreaths we made for you. We love to share with each other. Look, we brought treats for all our friends. Thank you parents for your help. We enjoyed our blow painting as part of our 'fireworks' creations. Notice our 'fireworks' poems already attached in safe containers awaiting Hallowe'en celebrations. Fun and games as we prepare for our Hallowe'en break. First of all we had some 'Floury Fun'! Then we were blindfolded and tried to pin the tail onto the witch's cat! See where we put it. Next it was 'apple bobbing' time! We simply got 'wet, wet, wet'! You can see we had so much fun. In Mr. Finlay's 6th class we have been writing odes. Odes are poems which praise or worship a person or thing. Why not have a listen to some of them here. First up is Eoin K with his Ode to Technology Next is Emma L with her Ode to Music Then we have Eoin F with his Ode to the Sportsground, the home of Connacht Rugby Finally, Shane F reads out his Ode to Gum, which is of course banned in our school.
We thoroughly enjoyed making our Mother's Day gifts. We studied our word wall. We painted our flower pots, hearts and stars. We repotted our bulbs, wrote our cards and poems and rolled our scrolls. We hope our Mums enjoy their presents for a very long time. Preparation Making the batter Lots and lots of whisking, pouring, beating, and mixing The quality control teams at work Ready, steady, cook and eat Tidy up time Mr. Finlay's class have been doins some explanation writing. We were writing about how things work and are made. We did the research at home and types them on our computers. Below are a few examples. The first one is by Shane and shows how volcanoes are made. The second is by Emma and explains how to get a book published and the third one by Tom explains how bows work. We will hopefully get to read our stories to the infant classes. We have been using the artists drawings to create stories.
