Painting in Junior Infants

19/9/2014

We were busy painting this morning in Ms. Cooney's Junior Infants. We did some free painting so we got to paint what ever we liked. Some of us painted the beach, a flower, a fire engine, a see saw, a rainbow, a car, a dragon, a monster and a Skylander.  We also coloured in and cut out some triangles and played with plasticine. Look at us busy at work......

Snowman      by Sarah

My snowman Ed,
His best friend is Ned.
My other snowman is called Ted
And they all sleep in my bed!
One of them sleeps on top of the bed
The other one sleeps under the bed
We all have fun in my bedroom
Thats it for now off to bed Ed, Ned, and Ted

I KEEP MY SNOWMAN IN THE FREEZER by Cathal

My friend snowman
His name is Bob
He’s very friendly
And likes corn on the cob

We play together
He doesn’t move
He just plays along
With the grove.
In the night
He stays in dark
Until morning light
Appears like a spark.
One sunny day
I looked out the window
To only find
He had gone away.

Snowman Poem

Snowy snowman
Never naughty
Oh so nice
Waiting for winter
Magical snowmen
Are all about
Never bring them inside.

We decided to treat ourselves to chocolate muffins. Watch carefully and you will see exactly how to make great chocolate cakes! You will see some of our story on the whiteboard.
We didn't keep everything for ourselves! We hope you liked the cards and wreaths we made for you.
We love to share with each other. Look, we brought treats for all our friends. Thank you parents for your help.
Thank you friends from Second Class for coming to sing to us. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you too.

We enjoyed our blow painting as part of our 'fireworks' creations. Notice our 'fireworks' poems already attached in safe containers awaiting Hallowe'en celebrations.
Fun and games as we prepare for our Hallowe'en break.
First of all we had some 'Floury Fun'!
Then we were blindfolded and tried to pin the tail onto the witch's cat! See where we put it.
Next it was 'apple bobbing' time!
We simply got 'wet, wet, wet'! You can see we had so much fun.

In Mr. Finlay's 6th class we have been writing odes. Odes are poems which praise or worship a person or thing. Why not have a listen to some of them here.

First up is Eoin K with his Ode to Technology
Next is Emma L with her Ode to Music
Then we have Eoin F with his Ode to the Sportsground, the home of Connacht Rugby
Finally, Shane F reads out his Ode to Gum, which is of course banned in our school.

We thoroughly enjoyed making our Mother's Day gifts.
We studied our word wall.
We painted our flower pots, hearts and stars.
We repotted our bulbs, wrote our cards and poems and rolled our scrolls.
We hope our Mums enjoy their presents for a very long time.

The first one is by Shane and shows how volcanoes are made. The second is by Emma and explains how to get a book published and the third one by Tom explains how bows work. Look back next week to see some more of our projects.

Fireworks in Ms. Pamplin's First Class!

1/11/2012

Inspired by Fireworks from Belair, we brainstormed great ideas for our own fireworks poems.
Erupting like a volcano, popping like corn,
Colouring like a rainbow, exploding like dynamite,
Cackling like a witch, crackling like a bonfire,
Laughing like a hyena, booming like a giant,
Knocking like a trick or treater, sneaking like a ghost,
Banging like a gorilla, swooping like an eagle,
Hissing like a snake.
Drifting down from the sky, falling into thin air,
Burning down like a house, landing on the ground,
Vanishing into fairyland, go the fireworks,
Quietly like children thinking.
