6th class have been busy getting creative in Art, Gaeilge, SPHE and English Writing. Here are samples of their lovely work. There are Tropical Fish Scenes, Symmetrical Chinese Dragons, Word Art currently on display. We had also got together as a group to create a "Friendship Tree". Each pupil wrote down a thought on how to promote friendship and prevent bullying on their own leaves. We have been busy covering the topic "Bia" in Gaeilge and made our own "Biachlár"... Bia go blasta, álainn i ngach bialann ar fad! Finally we now have our published Reports on display and they make for some interesting reading! It was Friendship Week in Bushypark School from November 16th to 20th. We played with our friends during Golden Time. We had lots of fun. Fifth Class have been focusing on gymnastics in PE over the past few weeks. We have been performing exercises that require strength, flexibility, balance and control. We firstly worked with a partner to create a number of partner balances including counter balances, whereby we supported each other in a position. We then progressed to group balances where we found good support from group members was necessary to demonstrate successful balances. Today, we created sequences including both partner balances and group balances in groups of four. Below are some photos from our demonstrations today. Last week was Science Week and a 'Mad Scientist' visited our school.. He did lots of fun activities with us.
This week, 6th class have been working hard for friendship week. The boys and girls shared their ideas on how to be good friends and how to look out for one another. As a class they created a giant friendship chain comprising of friendship quotes on each link, friendship/anti bullying posters, composed poems on the topic and took part in themed days such as ‘Random Act of Kindness Day’ and ‘Pay a Compliment Day’. Be sure to check out the displays outside and inside room 11. Ms. Pamplins 3rd class have been visiting Ms.Kavanagh's Junior Infant class every friday for buddy reading. Both classes look forward to, enjoy and gain from the buddy experience. Here is a look at us working so well together :)!! We had good fun in our p.e class today. We started off by doing some warm ups. We then practised some basketball skills through games by working together in groups. Finally, we took part in some fun, short sprints. We have been busy learning about 'Report Writing' in 6th (R.10). We all chose a topic of interest to research and report on. We were careful to follow the specific framework for report writing. Once we had edited our drafts and were satisfied with the result we published our work as a Word Document. We used some great pictures from the web to support our writing. We had fun presenting our reports to the class! On Tuesday afternoon we had a whole school skipping show in the hall with Lee. Some of us got to demonstrate the new skipping skills that we learned. We have all made wonderful progress since Lee has started coming to the school. Thanks Lee!! Today we brought in a really special item for Show and Tell. We got a photo taken with our item and we will put this into The Photograph Page of our S.A.L.F (Self Assessment Learning Folder). Teacher asked us why they chose our special items. Our friends watched, listened and asked questions. Today we were very lucky to have Lee visit the school to teach us some new skipping skills. This is our third year having Lee in and it just gets better every year. We are really looking forward to the school show as some of us have been picked to demonstrate our skipping skills. This year, we in 5th Class, have undertaken a class project to be part of the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. We have put a lot of thought and effort into making our shoe boxes special for the boys and girls who will be receiving them. We are very proud of what we have done and are so pleased to know that we are making a difference and that we will be making all the boys and girls so happy.
This week sixth class were investigating how to test for starch using iodine and small samples such as pasta, potatoes and plastic. Working as scientists, the class made predictions as to what might contain starch, tested the items and then recorded the results. If you would like to know what starch is and where to find it, ask the boys and girls in room 11. Today we had great fun learning how to juggle with Stephen from the Galway Community Circus. We began by balancing a peacock feather on our hand, nose and chin. Stephen was very impressed with how good we were so he introduced us to the diabolo. This looked a lot easier than it was but we managed to grasp it. We also had some fun with spinning plates and flower sticks. Here are some pictures of us practising our new juggling skills: We read 'My Many Coloured Days' by Dr. Seuss. He uses colours to represent the different emotions and feelings we have. We created lovely art to show the colours that best describe us. When we read 'Owl Moon.' we used our reading strategies to help us visualise and create images in our heads of all the sights and sounds described by the author, Jane Yolen. In our class book 'Feena's First Book of Facts,' we were learning about food and staying healthy. We read 'Eat Your Peas' by Kes Gray.
This is Charlie Bear. He loves stories, cuddles and dressing up! He takes turns visiting our homes and looks out for really good behaviour in class. Charlie had a hard time deciding what to wear at Halloween!
