In Fifth Class we have been practising our gymsastic skills as part of our PE programme. We have done individual, paired, small group and large group poses. We have used symmetry and assymmetry, used props and each-other to hold our poses. We have really enjoyed sequencing and using low, middle and high levels to portray our balances.
Recently, the boys and girls in our school all entered the St. Michael's GAA Colouring Competition.
We were delighted to find out that we had four winners in our school! Sally Mannion from St Michael's came to the school today to make presentations of Club Hoodies to the winners and also presented prizes to children who were chosen as "Best in their Class". Well done everybody! And well done to everyone who entered! We have been learning all about Irish Legends in Room 7. We read the story of The Brown Bull of Cooley which was about Queen Maeve and her husband Ailill who lived in Connacht. We watched a video clip of the Children of Lir and will work with one of our friends to write a new ending to that story. We particularly enjoyed the story of Finn Mac Cool and the Giants Causeway. Here are some pictures that we drew of Finn, the Irish giant and Angus, the Scottish giant. We also sequenced the story and did some lovely comic strips. Iona did a project on the Giants causeway.
Ask us to tell you about this story. We hope you enjoy our pictures. We have had great fun all week trying out new fruit and veg for Food Dudes! On Wednesday we had: oranges and cucumbers, on Thursday we had carrot sticks and apples and on Friday we had peppers and bananas! Even though some of us were nervous, everyone made a great effort to at least taste everything.
Daniel Rekas won 50 Euro for an art competiton in Polish School. We are so proud! Senior Infants carried out an investigation today to find out whether materials were waterproof or not. It was fun!Senior Infants had great fun skipping in the hall with Lee. Look at Mr. Cunningham doing the double skip!!! We had great dressing up for halloween at school. We even had a visit from a pirate! This week we have been reading the story Peace at Last. It is a lovely story about Mr. Bear who cannot get to sleep because there are lots of noises disturbing him. We drew pictures of places we would tell Mr. Bear to go on a magic carpet to get a restful nights sleep. We also made a cosy blanket for Mr. Bear's son Baby Bear. Look at some of our lovely work we did during the week: The children in 6th class have been busy drawing wonderful creations for the Lion Club International Peace Poster Contest this year. The theme this year was 'Peace, Love and Understanding'. The children put a huge amount of thought and effort into their posters and after a couple of drafts produced some very inspiring artwork indeed1 There were many schools competing and out of approx 150 entries, Sophie McNicholl was awarded third place overall! Ella Kitt and Kate Henry were also highly commended by the adjudicator for their efforts! The President of the Galway Lions Club, Mrs. Eimear McDonell, came to school today to congratulate all the children in both 6th classes for participating and of course Sophie for her great achievement!! We are all very proud of you Sophie!! |
