Sixth class in Bushypark have been learning to code as part of EU Code Week. We were introduced to Scratch on the computers and learned how to move characters around the screen by writing code. We will continue Scratch for the next few weeks. Find out more about EU Code Week by clicking here or you can follow the Twitter hashtag #codeEU We love to have Buddy Reading every Friday...we look forward to it all week. The 3rd class children from Room 15 come to room 2 and are very kind to us. They read us lots of different books from the classroom library and we listen and discuss the book. Sometimes we can read some of the words too as we are learning to sound out and make different words at school and for homework. Thank you 3rd class:)! Greetings, one and all, from Fifth Class, Room 13. We have been enjoying getting active and creating dance moves lately. We are delighted with our Zumba classes and really enjoyed Skip Hop also. Recently as part of integrated Music, Drama and PE lessons we responded through expressive movement to "Ritual Fire Dance" by Manuel de Falla. We brought some dramatic effects to enhance our dances. We also performed these dances as part of our Hallowe'en celebrations, but with our costumes on, we were TOO Scary to post on the website :-) Whilst learning about the Maoris of New Zealand, we tried our hands at the HAKA. It was great fun getting the words and actions to synchronise! We tried our best to bring some warrior attitude! This Dance Troupe is currently preparing "The 12 Days of Christmas", a dastardly, dazzling musical, so you will soon be invited to Room 13 to see the fruits of our labour! Until then, keep chancin' the dancin' !! Newsflash from room 5! We've started reading our 'chapter books'. We are so proud and we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves! Our favourite author at the moment is Roald Dahl. We discovered some interesting facts about him too.
The girls and boys in room 5 were delighted to get to know their neighbours from room 6 during friendship week. We discovered that we had lots to chat about and couldn't wait to meet up at play time.
Friendship week in Room 6. This week in Bushypark NS we have been celebrating friendship week. We had 'Pay a Compliment Day' and on Wednesday we made new friends when we visited room 5 and they visited us. We introduced ourselves and told somethings about ourselves and listened as our friends told us about themselves. We really enjoyed it and have made a play date for the future. We made apple crumble in Room 6. We wrote the recipe as part of our procedural writing. Here it is if you'd like to make it at home.
Ingredients: 4 large cooking apples, peeled and chopped into big chunks. 1 tablespoon of water. 3 tablespoons of sugar. For the crumble: 170g plain flour 75g brown sugar 75g butter. Method: Rub the butter into the flour then stir in the sugar. Put the apple mix into a large dish and sprinkle the crumble on top. Bake for 35 minutes at 180 degrees celcius. Stephen Allman came to visit us on Thursday for science week. We were amazed with all the experiments he did for us. We were shocked to see him light up 10 euro. We learned about gravity using a ping pong ball through a metal pipe. It was brilliant to see how pencils were pierced through a plastic bag of water end it didn’t even leak. He made Ms Newell stand under a balloon filled with water while he placed a flame under the balloon. It was great fun. Some of us even had to sit on a bed of nails and it didn’t hurt! This week as part of science week, we had a visit from Stephen Allman. He did some really cool experiments with us. He lit some money, put a spear through a balloon without bursting it, turned water into pink liquid, put twelve pencils into a bag of water without any water getting out, filled a bottle of water and used a ping pong ball to stop water getting out when he turned it upside down, balanced three bowling balls on top of each other using salt and made Mr. Cunningham sit on a stool of nails without hurting himself. Have a look at the cool experiments here: The boys and girls in senior infants had great fun baking today. We made three different kinds of cakes. We all helped out in the making and in the eating! Ms Regan and Mr. Cunningham's classes are really enjoying the zumba classes Senior infants were skipping with Lee. It was great fun and we were all very good at it! ![]() Well done to all the athletes who took part in the schools cross country in Renmore today!!Sophie and Orla did brilliantly in the girls race for 3rd/4th and 5th class. Aaron, Cathal and Mikey ran very well in the 800 metres boys race. Stephen and Tom ran a great 1000 metres. A huge congratulations to Sorcha Morrish who won the 6th class girls race and got a trophy:)!!!Very proud of all our athletes. We have been having lots of fun reading the Gruffalo this week. We now know all the characters from the story. We sequenced the animals in the right order . We also made our own masks so we could role play the story.....this is lots of fun!! |
