We have been learning all about animals and their habitats recently. We decided to pick an animal that we were very interested in and try to discover more about it. We talked about where we could do our research and various ways of creatively displaying our findings. Everyone put lots of time and effort into their project work and should be extremely proud of themselves. They are creative and full of lots of interesting facts and pictures. We presented our work in class and everybody learned lots of exciting new animal facts!
Today, 6th class were so lucky to get a visit from Kieran, Lillian and Thomas from S.A.P, who taught us how to use coding. We used a program called Scratch. We created brilliant games, sequences and videos in our pairs. We had such a great time and can't wait to practice it ourselves and design even more!
Kieran, Thomas and Lillian from S.A.P visited our classroom today to teach us about coding on the laptops. We learned all about Scratch and made our own computer programmes with it. We would like to say a huge thank you to Kieran, Thomas and Lillian for teaching us this fun activity. We can't wait to try it at home.
Kathleen very kindly came with our classes on our fourth class nature walk today. We went to Dungan where we looked out for different types of leaves and trees and witnessed some beautiful autumn colours. Kathleen told us about the different leaves and trees that are in Dungan so next time we will be able to identify them by ourselves. A big thank you to Kathleen for coming on our walk with us. Ms. Cooney's class have also created some wonderful projects on Irish Mammals, we all picked a different mammal and learned lots of interesting facts about Irish Mammals from listening to each others projects. Well done everyone.
We created some clay monsters for Halloween. We took some inspiration from images that we saw and then we put our imaginations to work and created these wonderful masterpieces:
We would like to wish everyone a very happy Halloween and we hope that everyone enjoys the break!
We have been doing lots here in room 13 to get ready for it, from making our 3D pumpkins for our classroom pumpkin patch, to using pastels to create spooky Halloween pictures to making a creepy Halloween Chocolate Gingerbread house!
Have a look at what we got up to!
We spent our morning making Halloween shortbread biscuits. We beat butter and eggs together to make a smooth paste. We then gradually added in some flour. After that, we rolled it out and used cutters in the shapes of ghosts, pumpkins, bats, cats, owls and skulls to shape our biscuits. When they were cooked, we let them cool and then decorated our biscuits with icing. We really enjoyed making them and they were so delicious!!!
We have been busy in the kitchen making soup recently! We picked a selection of vegetables from the garden that we planted last year. We brought in some root veg ourselves, along with all the appliances needed to rustle up some delicious veg soup! We practiced peeling, chopping and cleaning up after ourselves. After all our hard work in the kitchen we returned to taste the result of our culinary skills and we thought it was YUMMY! Thanks to all who helped us on the day we really appreciated it!
Today we took advantage of the beautiful weather to go on a nature trail in Dangan! We went on a scavenger hunt and found lots of leaves and insects. We found chestnut, oak, ash, beech, maple, willow, horsetail and fern leaves. We also found fruits such as rosehips, chestnuts, pine cones, blackberries and acorns. We also met some furry friends along the way! We had lots of fun and now our 'Investigation Table' is full of all our wonderful findings!
We recently completed projects on the history of a building or ruin in our local area. We then presented these projects to the class. Well done to everyone for the great effort put into these projects!!
We enjoyed learning the different parts of the eye while working on a colour wheel activity. We started off with the primary colours blue, yellow and red and mixed these colours to create the secondary and tertiary colours. We then used our colour wheels as irises and used our drawing skills to draw the other parts of the eye. Take a look at our finished products!
We are very lucky because we have been using our laptops to play fun maths and phonics games .
We also win a trophy if we are Pupil of the Week or have been very good at something during the week-handwriting,being kind or maths tables.
Recently we were fortunate to have the opportunity to make some homemade soup!
We began the day by going out to our school garden and picking as many vegetables as we could find. We then went to the kitchen where we washed the vegetables. After this, we peeled them and gave them another quick wash. Next, we carefully chopped the vegetables into chunks and put them all into 2 big pots! Some water was added, along with salt, pepper and cream. We left it to cook for about 50 minutes and once it was ready, it was blended.
Finally got to taste some and it was delicious!!
A special word of thanks to Kathleen and Sylvia who helped us out! Thanks also to Riki's Dad who made the most amazing bread for us to have with our soup!
Take a look at some of our photos from the day!
We practiced creating rhythms in our music today. We worked as groups to create and perform for the class. Take a look...

We have been reading and learning a lot about volcanoes. We did some fantastic projects at home and presented them to our class this week. As you can see we put a lot of work into them and are very proud of our work. Oisín and his dad made an amazing volcano at home and Oisín brought it into school to show us. Have a look at the videos below to see his great work!
Ms. Fox's 6th class would like to thank Kathleen Lohfeld for her kindness and patience when she volunteered to teach us how to make soup this week! With the help of other members of the parent's committee, we prepared a delicious soup made from scratch using carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions and parsnips. We peeled our own vegetables, washed them, chopped them up and popped them into the saucepan where we left them to cook. When we returned, our soup was ready to eat! It was delicious! Our budding chefs are now able to prepare a tasty, wholesome soup for those cold winter evenings!
We worked on our ordinal numbers and in pairs completed an instructional activity on ordering and colouring birthday presents.
Welcome to our school blog.
