Yesterday we got the chance to become chefs and make soup from scratch. We went out into the school garden to pick some fresh vegetables and we also brought some in from home. To make our soup we used potatoes, carrots, parsnips, leeks, celery and onions. We washed all the vegetables, peeled them and cut them and placed them all into one big pot. The vegetables were then boiled and when soft, blended together. We added a stock cube, cream, salt, pepper and curry powder at the end. Kate's dad also sent in some delicious brown bread for us to have with our soup. We really enjoyed making the soup and it was so delicious. We would like to say a big thank you to Kathleen, Gail and Dolores for all their help!

We were learning about Tall, Taller and Tallest in Maths. We had great fun collaborating with our friends and sorting pictures into categories of Tall, Taller and Tallest.
We have been very busy here in 5th Class (Room 13) since we started back at school!
In art, we created our 'Selfie Portraits' - we learned how important it is to plan our drawing before we begin and the importance of starting with the eyes. We also created some rustic autumn trees by using a variety of techniques using both brown and crepe paper such as folding, crumpling, moulding and balancing. We also used teabags to create our 'Scrolls from the Past' to show how people may have learned about the 10 Commandments after the time of Moses. Our Poet of the Month is W.B. Yeats (1865 - 1939). We have been learning about his life and looking at some of his work. We focused on his use of imagery in 'The Lake Isle of Inisfree' and chose our favourite lines of imagery from the poem. These lines then inspired us to draw what we saw "in our minds". I nGaeilge, bhíomar an gnóthach! Bhíomar ag foghlaim an amhráin 'Caisleán ar an Dhroim' le Ed Sheeran. Chomh maith le sin, rinneamar Greannáin iontach bunaithe ar an scéal 'Daithí agus an Turgnamh Eolaíochta'. Tóg féachaint orthu! Take a look at some of the work we have been getting up to! Today in our class we made vegetable soup using the lovely vegetables we grew in our school garden last year. Kathleen, Anne and Christine were very kind and came to help us with our soup. First we went out and picked the vegetables from the garden. Then we went to the staff room where we washed and chopped the vegetables. We chopped potatoes, carrots, parsnips, leeks, garlic and onions. We placed them in a huge pot and cooked them. When they were ready we added some herbs, salt, pepper curry powder and cream, Kathleen then blended the soup for us. When it was ready we all tried some and added in some homemade croutons. It was delicious. We can give mum and dad a break in the kitchen now and make lovely vegetable soup for them. We have been learning lots about volcanoes in Room 8. We read about them, watched videos, painted our own volcanoes and did an experiment. We loved learning about them and the experiment was great fun! We have been busy looking back over work we did in 2nd class and we have been testing each other out in class using number fans, notation boards and blank hundred squares. We are also busy revising our addition tables trying to keep them fresh in our memory and remembering them as fast as we can especially when playing the 'Bubble Popping Game' on the IWB! We have been working on shape in maths and created symmetrical shaped elephants in art! We folded card and cut along half of the elephants body and when finished unfolded the card and had a perfectly symmetrical animal! We then coloured and decorated them.
Big congratulations to a new pupil in our school, Oscar, on winning player of the week on yard- well done!
We carried out a soil investigation today. We examined a sample of soil and we found roots, moss, twigs, leaves and even snails. Then we half-filled a jar with some of the soil and filled the other half with water. The two were mixed together and left to settle. After an hour we examined the jar to see what had floated to the top and what had sank and we recorded the results. It was a fun experiment! We have been busy in September. We learned the song 'I can Sing a Rainbow' and we painted beautiful rainbow pictures. We also had lots of fun learning on our new I-pads
The children in 6th Class have been learning about newspaper articles. We looked at the features of newspaper articles and then analysed an article in pairs. Most of these articles were about Galway's recent hurling victories and so we really enjoyed this activity. 2nd class room 7 went exploring and investigating on our school grounds for nature all around us.6/9/2017 The girls and boys in Room 2 have had a fantastic start to their school year. They have been having lots of fun playing with their new friends and exploring all the toys and games in their classroom. Everyone in Bushypark N.S is supporting Galway in the All-Ireland finals on Sunday. There was great excitement in 2nd class today and we really enjoyed wearing our Galway colours to school. Best of luck from all of us! Bring home Liam!! There was great excitement in school today for our maroon and white day. All of us in sixth class are behind the team and have made headbands and bracelets to wear an match day! Best of luck to the Galway hurling team. Go n-éirí libh!!!!!
