This week in art we created an Autumn display of animals that hibernate for the winter such as the squirrel and the hedgehog. Did you know that some species of butterfly hibernate as adult butterflies, including the Brimstone, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and Red Admiral, while other species survive the winter as eggs, caterpillars or chrysalis? We used various materials to create the animals such as leaves, matchsticks and feathers and we really enjoyed making them.

We worked co-operatively in P.E this week. We had to join hands to form a circle and pass a hula-hoop around the circle without breaking hands. It was great fun working together. We have been bringing the clothes, shoes and toys we had when we were babies into school. We have been very busy growing!! They don't fit us anymore!
We have been looking at all types of line. Straight lines, wavy, curly, diagonal, zigzag, spiral. Look at all the lines we used in our art! Over the last fortnight, we have been getting our hands dirty here in Room 7!
We are studying China in History and Geography at the moment. We have also been busy getting creative with Chinese inspired art work! We practised the skill of marbling whilst making our lanterns which we decorated to our own personal taste with crepe paper and jewels! We also drew and coloured our very own dragon heads. We folded coloured paper to create an accordion effect for the body. Once again we decorated with ribbon and jewels to our own personal taste! We had great fun celebrating China in art this month! 6th Class have recently been studying about Georgian architecture in History class. They each chose a building that they really admired and studied them in detail. They presented their projects to the class and shared some interesting facts with us about the many buildings and their pasts. They represented their findings in a very artistic and creative way! Well done to all! 6th have been busy working on their place value and data skills! We have had a busy September in 2nd class and we are really looking forward to the year ahead. Have a look at some of the work we have done so far! We made a flower using our handprints. We wrote about ourselves as gaeilge. We painted fierce exploding volcanoes and we have created our own picture storybooks online. In Third Class we were busy researching our Roald Dahl and Tom Crean factfiles as well as information about our favourite birds. We had a particularly productive time. The boys and girls in 6th Class have been focusing on the strand of Athletics in PE this month. This has included running, jumping and throwing. We really enjoyed the sprints but also practised our running over distance. We then progressed to relays including circular relays around the pitch. We enjoyed measuring the length of our jumps in the hall-both long jump and triple jump. The children in 6th Class have enjoyed taking part in activities during Maths Stations. Today we took part in activities to show our understanding of Place Value. We are now working with numbers up to 1,000,000. Stations included Place Value Bingo, Abacus Activities, Notation Boards and Mental Maths. Over the past few weeks, we have been very busy here in Room 7! |
