The Golden Boot and Bowl!
We were delighted in first class room 6 last week to finally be the holders of the golden boot...and it made a nice partner for the golden bowl, which we had previously won! Lets keep up the W.O.W and healthy eating in the school!
Congratulations to Anne Marie Egan and Dillon Kitt (both 6th Class) who recently won prizes in the Galway Pioneer Total Abstinence Association Essay Writing Competition. The weather was kind to us and all 39 participants enjoyed the day out. We qualified for many finals and managed to bring home medals in a number of events. Well done to all those who took part, and to all those who won medals.

You may remember our post about the tadpoles we had in 5th class.. Well, we are delighted to tell you that they grew to be happy and healthy after the care we gave them in room 13!
We noticed that they had started to develop their little legs just in time so the girls so kindly and carefully took them out of our man made "pond" and brought them back to their home. Keep an eye out for them in this lovely sunny weather.... They might be hopping right past you!
We have made new friends in 5th class this year as we joined up with a school in Dublin and are now penpals! We love writing to our penpals telling them all about ourselves, our school and our hobbies. We are so excited when the postman finally delivers our letters !
This week in art we used the technique of pointillism developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in 1886. We chose our own objects to draw. Have a look at our finished pieces!
Last year our school took part in the 'Smarter Travel Schools Pilot Project.' We learned about smarter more environmentally friendly ways of travelling to school. We also increased the number of children walking and cycling to school. We were awarded the 'Smarter Travel Flag' for our participation in the pilot project. Many thanks to the members of the parents association and our green schools committee for helping making this possible.
Congratulations to our 2nd Class pupils who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday 13th May. They were all wonderful and did the School and their parents proud.
After the ceremony, the children and their parents were invited back to the School Hall for a short party organised by our Parents' Association. The children had a chance to share their Special Day with their classmates.
Many thanks to the Parents Association for organising the event and thanks to all parents who volunteered on the day.

We were learning about capacity in maths. We discussed and measured which containers hold more and which hold less liquid. We also discussed the words full and empty. We had to arrange the containers in order of which we thought holds the most down to which holds the least. We had great fun pouring water and measuring during maths.
