We had such wonderful weather last week so it was the perfect opportunity to get out and get green fingers! A huge thank you to our parent's committee who were so kind to show us how to plant some delicious fruit and vegetables in our own flower bed! We planted a wide range of fruit and vegetables including carrots, potatoes, lettuce, leeks, turnips, radish, strawberries and even pumpkins! We are now responsible for minding our crops and will be watering them regularly, keeping an eye out for any signs of life and colour! How exciting!
When the sun was shining, we decided to soak it up in 3rd class! We took our maths outside and measured our pitch and yard. We are learning all about length and we decided to use both a trundle wheel and a metre stick to measure them.
We also learned about 3-D shapes and their properties. Look at the lovely shapes we made!
We followed a series of steps to create our coil pots. We created a base and then rolled out coils to create our pots. We then painted them when they were set.
Mindfulness is very important to help us relax and be aware of our surroundings. Here in 3rd class, we made our own "Mindfulness Jars" which we use to help our minds settle down. The glitter and sparkles whizzing around the jar represent our minds when we are stressed or upset. When the jar is left alone to settle, it is like when we take time to ourselves and have "quiet time", our thoughts begin to settle and our mood lightens. We had great fun making these!
Well done to all the girls who trained all year and to those who got the chance to take part in the Girl's Mini 7's Gaeilic Football Blitz Finals with Mr McDonagh.
6th class have been busy working in stations during maths class. We are been very mindful of the world around us and created some lovely posters to display in our classroom. We enjoy having 2nd class come to us for reading buddies every Tuesday.
We created simple circuits in Science. A circuit is a loop of wire leading from a power source to an appliance and back to the power source again. We saw how electircity flows along a path called a circuit by using a small bulb in a bulb holder, insulated wire and a battery to light the bulb.
In art we created our own drawings of flowers using pastels while drawing inspiration from Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings.
As you know, we held our Annual Cake Sale/Monster Raffle on the 11th March. The day is a main fundraising event for our school and is something which we all look forward to every year. This year was no exception and was a great success, raising much needed funds for our school!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed in any way, be that by baking lovely treats for the sale, buying raffle tickets, donating prizes for our raffles and lucky dips or by making a financial contribution - it all helps to make our school the wonderful facility we can all be proud of.
