We are learning about things that use electricity, electricity sources and dangers of electricity. We did some magic tricks today that use static elecricity to work. Static electricity is made when you rub some things together. All we needed was our hair, jumpers, balloons and some little pieces of paper. Try these tricks at home to amaze your friends! There were great celebrations at school yesterday as our 6th class Debate Team won the 2015 Shield Final! The winning team members are Aenghus McDonnell (captain), Jack O' Rourke and Sahil Gupta along with substitutes Cathal Keane, Hannah O' Connell and Mikey Maguire. They fought off very tough competition from Scoil Mhuire, Oranmore in what turned out to be a very entertaining final! The boys have worked very hard since October, as have all of 6th class, in preparation for yesterday. The event took place in NUIG in front of a crowd of 150. It was the first time the event took place in such a prestigious location. The boys have done themselves and their school proud!! We wish them every success in their future debating careers!!
We painted some lovely pictures this week in Ms Cooney's class. We used lots of colourful paint to make our paintings. Some of us painted pictures of flowers, jets, Easter Eggs, houses, holidays and the sun. Have a look at our fabulous work..... ![]() We have been studying the topic of Length in our Maths lessons and have had great fun estimating and then investigating length of certain items (and people) in our class room and school environs. We had particular fun investigating the length of our new pitch as we had to navigate our way around the goal posts. We measured all the different sections and then added up the results in order to find out the perimeter of our new pitch. Thanks to George for recording our findings! Mother By Roger J. Robicheau A Mother’s love, is sure to find A way to comfort, ease your mind She knows just how, to build you up When you’re so down, and can’t look up You love the way, she makes you feel Like you’re so special, her ideal Her thought must start, with God above To bring such caring, with such love. 6th were busy working with clay in art class this week. They were making coil pots by rolling out the clay into long coils of similar width and stacking them on top of each other. In order for the clay to stick together properly they had to pinch the inner side of the pot to avoid any cracks! They decorated their finished pieces beautifully with paint! We are busy in Senior Infants preparing for St. Patricks Day with our Dancing Shamrocks. Aren't they great? We read the story of Chicken Licken. Then we made our own Chicken Lickens We were delighted to be visited by the brilliant author John Quinn this week, as part of our book week. He read an extract from his book 'The Summer of Lily and Esme' and was kind enough to read some of our writing! One such piece was written by Chloe McDonagh and John was highly impressed by her enthusiasm for writing and her written piece. Well done Chloe and keep up the writing!
We are so proud of our debating team in 6th Class. They recently defeated Gort Convent in a very competitive debate which took place in the Galway Education Centre. The motion was "Aid to the Developing World is a Luxury that Ireland Cannot Afford" and Bushypark were the proposing team. They were a credit to themselves and performed brilliantly. Well done to Team Captain Aenghus McDonell, Jack O' Rourke and Sahil Gupta. The subs were Hannah O' Connell, Cathal Keane and Mikey McGuire. We look forward to the final in NUIG on March 23rd. Best of luck to the team and subs! |
