We were kept very busy working on different aspects of 2D shape during Maths stations recently. We worked with tangrams, pentominos, symmetry and coordinates during the lessons. The children in 6th Class had great fun programming these floor robots today. Identifying the exact commands to make the beebots manoeuvre to the desired location in a maze was trickier than we initially thought. Luckily we have great problem-solving skills and made great progress as we went along. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering what our bee-bots could do. We linked in with our maths work on directions and even managed to write mini computer programmes. Thank you to Mr Cunningham and the Teacher's Centre for supplying us.
Take a look at our Valentine's inspired hearts! We learned about the history of the Valentine's tradition and why we celebrate St.Valentine's day every February the 14th. St.Valentine lived in Rome thousands of years ago and was a priest. He cured a roman girls blindness and performed other miracles. He died on February 14th.
We set up stations in room 6 today to work on programming! We worked with the Beebots and also worked on Scratch junior and the Beebot app. We had lots of fun! We discussed how littering can cause harm to fish in the sea and how we can reduce our use of plastic.
We were learning our left and right. We programmed the bee bot to land on certain shapes, numbers and how to get through the maze.
This week as part of maths and programming we were using Bee Bots. We set up four stations in our classroom. We had four different tasks to carry out. Two stations involved programming Bee Bots, one station was using the Bee Bots App on our Ipads and the other station created programmes on Scratch. We really enjoyed the activities and will use them again soon.We experimented with Bee-Bots today. We had to programme them to move around a mat/maze in a sequence of directions to reach an end point. It was great fun! We have done some amazing projects on China this week. We have learned facts about the country, its cities, its buildings, The Great Wall of China, pandas, tea, Chinese inventions and the Chinese New Year. Everyone worked really hard at making their projects and we are all very proud of our work. Here in 6th class (Room 10) we recently sent our first letters to our 'Pen Pals'. Our class has been linked with a 'Year 6' class in a school near Malaga in Spain and each of us now has our own 'Pen Pal' !
We posted the letters and are really looking forward to getting our replies soon! A group of children from senior infants had great fun today programming our Bee Bots. We were learning lots of skills such as listening and following instructions, directionality, sequencing, estimation and problem solving. Great team work and great fun.
We have been learning how to read the time in room 6! We've looked at o'clock and half past. We even made our own clocks! We have been learning all about the farm in first class over the last while. We read a story called Grandpa's Farm and did lots of work on farm animals and their young. We also looked at how to be safe on the farm. We created our own farms in art. Take a look at our work! |
