On Friday the 17th of January we had fruit day Friday in 1st class. Each pupil brought in one extra piece of fruit in their lunch box and we used the fruit in the following ways:
1. We used our fruit in maths to sort and count before representing our favourite fruit on a pictogram.
2. We arranged our fruit in bowls and sketched and painted them as 'Still Life' for art.
3. We did a fruit investigation in science.
4. And finally we made a delicious fruit salad that everyone enjoyed.
On Thursday we visited the teddy bear hospital. We had great fun-even Mr. Cunningham enjoyed himself.
A new 6 week Gymnastics with Yoga Programme for 2nd & 3rd Class has commenced. Here are some photos of the two 3rd classes in action!
Junior and Senior Infants were very lucky to be picked to go to visit the Teddy Bear Hospital in NUIG today. We all brought our teddies to the hospital were we explained to the doctors what was wrong with our teddies. Some teddies had sore arms, legs, backs, heads and eyes. The doctors examined our teddies and wrote "pawscriptions" for us, we also brought our teddies for x rays and M.R.I's and then we brought our teddies to the Pharmacy to get some medicine. When our teddies were feeling better we went on the bouncing castles and some of us got our face painted.
Today the junior and senior infants took their teddies ( suffering from various ailments!!) to the teddy bear hospital in N.U.I.G. We were very excited to get the bus to and from the hospital. Once inside we had to tell the doctors what symptoms our teddy had and teddy was examined. The doctor filled out a form and then the teddies were sent for xray. Some teddies needed a plaster, others needed medicine and some had to get stitches. When our teddies were better we got to go on the bouncy castles and some of us got our faces painted. We had a great day:)!!
Today Ms Regan's class made brown bread. We learnt all about the ingredients and how to mix dry and wet ingredients. Brown bread was very easy to make. We baked the bread and tasted it with butter and jam. It was delicious.
In 2nd class room 7 we are learning exciting new facts about penguins. Did you know that there are 17 different types of penguins living in the Antarctic?Have a look at our fabulous penguins. We used potatoes and paint to create these.
We are working hard in 2nd class on our English writing. We are learning how to explain how things happen or occur. We do this using 'Explanatory writing'.
Our school had a visit from the Road Safety Authority. They came here to teach us some important lessons in Road Safety. The programme was called Street Smart.
RSA visited our school this week. 2nd class had lots of active fun learning about road safety, using a giant sized floor mat of streetscape. We loved having the chance and dress up in role of pedestrians, cyclists, garda, ambulance drivers, fire brigade
The RSA came into visit our school this week. Rachel and Brian taught us how to cross the road safely and we all received safety licenses so that we can make sure everybody wears their seatbelt when we go in the car. Here are some pictures of our fun day:
We learned all about safety on the roads today. We had great fun trying it out in the pop up town. Then we all got road safety licences
In second class we are learning many ways of using our money. We are also learning how to be sensible when spending our money!
