We carried out a number of investigations to explore solids liquids and gases in 6th Classes.
1. We filled two balloons with water and left one in the freezer overnight. We also filled one with air and examined at the differences between the three states-solid, liquid and gas.
2. We investigated the effect of heat on various materials, by placing salt, sugar and an egg into the oven. After 15 minutes, we noticed the sugar had turned into caramel, the egg had cooked and become harder and rubbery. The sugar and egg had changed permanently but the salt hadn't changed at all.
3. We also looked at what happens to water when it becomes warmer and cooler. It seems water is unusual as it expands when it freezes and the ice contracts as it melts.
4. We investigated what happens when air is heated by placing a balloon over a warm radiator. The air expands.
