5th Class Walk Ability Walk

Green Schools Walk Ability
Today my class had a visit from Caitríona, the Green Schools person.  She told us that we were going on a walk to the Bailey and Bushypark Church. She gave some of us jobs. Tommy and Isabelle were on timing, Cian and Aidan were tallying the vehicles and Sophie, Leah and I were measuring the distance with trundle wheels.
We started at the school gates wearing hi-vis vests and carrying pens and paper. By the time we got the Bailey we covered 580m and it took 8mins 42secs going up and 7mins 19seconds going down. We saw 74 cars, 5 lorries, 3 bikers and 1 digger.
Going down to the church from our school gate was 864m and took 11mins 49 seconds . We saw 52 vans, 17 lorries, 3 buses, 2 walkers, 2 bikers and 320 cars.
On our walk we saw lots of leaves, some of them were the sycamore, the hawthorn, oak, birch, ash and horse chestnut. We also found some holly, ivy, ash keys [ash tree seeds] and butterfly plants.
Some good things we saw along our walk ability trip were a zebra crossing outside our school, a school sign, a footpath and a speed limit sign. Some things we saw that were not too good were that the footpath didn’t continue all the way up to The Bailey, our school sign was slightly covered by a bush and the speeding sign was very small.
It was a really fun day and I’m sure everyone would love to do it again!
