The Education Passport for Children is a new initiative by the NPC (National Parents Council), to help in the transition from Primary to post - Primary school. The Education Passport consists of:
· A standard end-of-year 6th Class Report Card to support both the dual information needs of parents and post-primary schools
· A My Profile sheet to give your child a voice in the transfer process
· A My Child’s Profile sheet to give you the option of contributing more information about your child. The primary school will send it to you along with a copy of your child’s My Profile. Once complete, you should return My Child’s Profile to the school within five days of receiving it. The primary school will then send your completed My Child’s Profile, your child’s My Profile and the 6th Class Report Card to the post-primary school.
Your child’s primary school will only share the Education Passport with the new post-primary school after enrolment has been confirmed.
The Education Passport materials complement existing ways used by post-primary schools to gather information from children’s parents/guardians and primary schools.
For 2013/2014 primary schools have the option of using some/all of the Education Passport. From 2014/2015 schools are required the Education Passport.
The Education Passport was developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) in consultation with parents, children, teachers, principals and partners including the NPC – Primary.
